Betareading services

Not every author needs the same kind of beta reading.

Some authors want to know how the story will land for their readers: what hooks the reader, where attention drifts, which moments hit emotionally and which don't, and what keeps the reader turning pages. Others want feedback that looks more closely at the story itself, with attention to character development, structure, worldbuilding, and the way the different pieces are working together.

That’s why this free beta reading service is offered through two distinct lenses: as a Reader and as a Storyteller. Both provide thoughtful, in-depth feedback, but each approaches your manuscript from a different angle. This allows you to choose the kind of feedback that best suits your draft, your goals, and the stage of the writing process you are in.

As a reader

The Reader Lens focuses on how your manuscript is experienced by a first-time reader. It looks at pacing, emotional impact, clarity, tension, and overall immersion.

This lens is ideal if you want to know where your story is gripping, where attention starts to drift, which emotional moments are landing, and where readers may feel confused or disconnected.

What's included?

  • A full read-through of your manuscript or short story

  • Inline comments in your document (Word, Google Docs)

  • An editorial letter of up to 5 pages

Genres I specialise in

Fantasy

I specialise in fantasy in all its subgenres. A story’s needs change depending on the kind of fantasy it is. The feedback therefore considers both the core building blocks (worldbuilding, character journey) of fantasy and the expectations readers bring to your specific subgenre.

Romance

I also specialise in romance across its many subgenres, where chemistry, emotional tension, pacing, and payoff are central to the reader experience. Whether your story leans tender, intense, slow-burn, or high-stakes, the feedback remains attentive to the kind of romantic experience your readers are hoping for.

Why work with a betareader?

When you’ve spent weeks or months (or even years!) building a manuscript, your brain starts filling in gaps automatically. You know what you meant, what your character feels, what the worldbuilding implies, and why a scene matters. A reader does not. Beta reading helps reveal the difference between the story in your head and the story that’s actually on the page.

For fantasy and romance authors, this kind of feedback is especially valuable. These stories ask a lot of the page: immersive worlds, believable character development, emotional tension, and satisfying payoff.

Insight from a person who reads as well as writes in these genres, brings an added layer of understanding to that process. As a fantasy author myself, I know how difficult it can be to shape a story. What it feels like to get stuck in a draft. Why you might want to give up when the writing becomes overwhelming. Together we'll ensure that you can move into the next revision phase with greater confidence and direction.

My stance on AI use

AI art is no art

You didn't pour your heart and soul into your story just to receive feedback from a machine... As a fantasy author myself, I believe in human creation and the creativity and hard work that it requires. AI could never replicate that. That's why you'll receive 100% guaranteed human feedback from me.
