The God of Oceans

My first work-in-progress (WIP) is a standalone new adult merfolk fantasy about a lonely mermaid called Merliah who happens to be the next High Priestess in the kingdom of Okyanuso. She is controlled by her mother, the current spiritual adviser, to do everything by the book. She's even prohibited from forming any relationships with others (including bonding with her own father) that may come in between her connection to their Ocean God Cinvaldr. One day, she discovers a strange gate-like structure in the nearby forest, and curious as she is, she approaches it, when suddenly the gate is restored to its former glory. Determined to find out what happened to it and her role in it, she tries to find her own identity in a society full of expectations.

A poem by the author Hannah Maes about Writer's Block: Your head stays empty one day. And your page remains white. No need to panic, you're alright. More words are on their way.

Poems

I do not only write books, but I also enjoy writing poems. During the pandemic it became an indispensable outlet for my emotions and to this day I still use it to express myself.

The language I write my poems in is primarily Dutch, but occasionally I also slip an English or Spanish poem in there.

If you are interested in my work, I have a separate Instagram page for my poems (@rijmstroom). I also design the layout of the poem to fit the message. However, I also slip a poem about writing here and there on my writer account (@hannahmaes.writes).

Subscribers to my newsletter can ask me for a free personalised poem in English, Dutch or even Spanish. Subscribe here!
